Regular Pedro Almodóvar collaborator Carmen Maura (Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, Volver) plays María Ángeles, a woman happily living out her golden years in the sun-drenched Tangiers apartment where she’s resided for decades. Her peaceful existence is threatened, however, when her daughter Clara visits from Madrid with plans to sell the house. Having just endured a bitter divorce, Clara needs extra income to support herself and her children. But María Ángeles isn’t ready to give up her beloved home and community, so she concocts a crafty plan to buy back her home and furniture. In doing so, she’s swept into a completely unexpected romance with an antiques dealer that reawakens some dormant desires. This humorous, heartfelt drama playfully and provocatively challenges stereotypes about ageing, sexuality, independence and familial expectations.
