About Us

The Brunswick Picture House is run by people who are passionate about film and about bringing a local, independent cinema to Brunswick.

Screening a mix of new releases, documentaries, cult & classic movies, kids’ films and festival highlights, we hope that we’ve got you covered. We love to support local filmmakers as much as possible and we make our screen available for short film screenings, cast and crew events and film premieres. We recently started our very own festival, Northern Lights Film Festival with a strong focus on local short films. We also run BEATS WORKING, an annual celebration of the year’s best music documentaries from Australia and around the world, including some classics that simply need to be seen again!

We’re a family-run business & some of our other projects are Blow Up Cinema, an outdoor cinema co. & documentary film production co. Gusto Films.

Gus produced & directed the feature documentary, The Lost City of Melbourne which premiered at MIFF in 2022 and went on to be the highest grossing Australian documentary in Australia in 2022. Not bad for a low budget film that was only released in Victoria! It is currently streaming on Netflix.

Lou is a freelance music supervisor and has worked on numerous films and TV dramas such as Wentworth, Five Bedrooms, Mustangs FC and The Lost City of Melbourne.

About US

ABOUT US

Brunswick Picture House is a brand new single screen cinema and bar - brought to you by the team behind Thornbury Picture House. We are passionate about film and as Brunswick locals, we can’t wait to bring an independent single screen cinema to Sydney Road Brunswick. We plan to bring an exciting and diverse programme of films, to provide a place for local community groups to engage in fundraising activities together with supporting local filmmakers to have their work shown in a state of the art venue. Our cinema will have a 6.5m screen, 80 seats and 7.1 sound system. We will of course be fully accessible for disabled patrons.

In addition to operating Thornbury Picture House, we also make films (Gus produced & directed the documentary The Lost City of Melbourne), operate an outdoor cinema company (Blow Up Cinema) and Lou is a music supervisor (Rising Sounds), licensing music for Film and TV productions.

We can’t wait to open our doors in November (hopefully) and to become your local little picture house in the heart of Brunswick.

 Signing off, Gus and Lou.
